NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner

NAMS-CMP is the pre-2023 name for what's now MSCP — same exam, same issuer. Both labels stay valid, both verifiable against The Menopause Society's roster.

NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner (NAMS-CMP) is the pre-2023 name for the credential now called MSCP. Both refer to the same underlying certification issued by The Menopause Society — formerly the North American Menopause Society (NAMS).

We list NAMS separately on this directory because some clinicians still use the old label on their bios, marketing materials, and listings on other sites. If you see “NAMS-CMP” on a provider page here, it means our scraper caught the legacy label as it appears on the society’s public roster. Either name is a valid credential.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

What is the NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner credential? +
NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner (NAMS-CMP) is the pre-2023 name for the credential now called MSCP (Menopause Society Certified Practitioner). It was issued by the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), which rebranded to The Menopause Society in 2023. Both labels refer to the same certifying body, the same competency exam, and the same continuing-education requirements. Source: The Menopause Society, MSCP Program overview.
When did NAMS rebrand to The Menopause Society? +
NAMS rebranded to The Menopause Society in 2023, and the NAMS-CMP credential became MSCP at the same time. The society retained its directory, exam content, and recertification cycle. Clinicians who were NAMS-CMP at the time of the rebrand continue to be listed in the directory, now under the MSCP label, as they recertify on their normal three-year cycle. Does NAMS certification still count? +
Yes. NAMS-CMP and MSCP refer to the same underlying credential — they are clinically and administratively equivalent. A clinician who lists "NAMS-CMP" on a public bio in 2026 is still verifiable through The Menopause Society's practitioner directory under the MSCP label. We treat both labels as one credential in our verification gate. Source: The Menopause Society, Find a Menopause Practitioner directory.
Should I prefer a provider with MSCP over NAMS? +
No — there is no clinical reason to prefer MSCP over NAMS-CMP because they are the same certification under two different labels. Some clinicians display both because they were certified under the old name and have not updated their public bios. Both labels indicate the clinician has passed the same proctored competency exam administered by The Menopause Society. Source: The Menopause Society, MSCP Program.
How is NAMS-CMP verified? +
NAMS-CMP and MSCP are both verified through a single primary source: The Menopause Society's public practitioner directory. The directory is searchable by name, credential, and US state, and is the only authoritative record of who currently holds the credential. We verify every NAMS/MSCP badge on this site against that roster on a rolling cadence. Source: The Menopause Society, Find a Menopause Practitioner.
What clinical guidelines do NAMS-credentialed clinicians follow? +
Clinicians certified through NAMS / The Menopause Society are expected to practice in alignment with the 2022 Hormone Therapy Position Statement of The North American Menopause Society. The same evidence base is endorsed by ACOG (Practice Bulletin No. 141, reaffirmed 2023) and the Endocrine Society's 2015 Clinical Practice Guideline on menopausal hormone therapy. Is the NAMS credential recognized internationally? +
The NAMS / Menopause Society credential is US-focused, but its position statements are co-endorsed by the International Menopause Society and the Endocrine Society and are referenced internationally. Outside the US, equivalent credentials include the British Menopause Society Principles and Practice of Menopause Care certificate and the European Menopause and Andropause Society's competency framework. Our directory only verifies US-based NAMS/MSCP credentials. Source: International Menopause Society.
